The National Museum "The Memorial in Commemoration of the Famines` Victims in Ukraine" is dedicated to the victims of the awful tragedies that happened in the history of Ukrainian nation.

In the 20 th century Ukraine had endured three starvation periods – in 1921-22, 1932-33 and 1946-47 . The one of 1932-33, which happened as a result of Stalin’s repressive measures against the peasantry, is considered to be the greatest humanitarian disaster in the history of Ukraine . It took the lives of approximately3 mil 941 thousand people. Adding 6 million 122 thousand unborn babies to that number we may say that Ukraine had lost around 10 million people (due to the calculations of the M.V. Ptukha Demography and Social Investigations Institute ). Having destroyed the population by starvation, the Bolsheviks tried their best to conceal these facts and to erase the nation’s memory about it.

Ukraine suffered during 3 famines: 1921-1922, 1932-33 and 1946-47. All of them under the ruling of Bolsheviks regime.

The most tragedy took place in 1932-1933 when millions of people died. Вut it was forbidden to speak about it during Soviet times. Іt was officially considered that there was no famine in Ukrainian villages in 30-ies till 1987.

The reason of keeping silence is clear today. It was not only famine. It was the genocide of Ukrainian nation. Ukraine has lost approximately 10 millions.

Taking into consideration scales, cruelty and cynicism of realization of Golodomor, the history of modern Europe has no analogue of similar crimes. Millions of people died because of famine, having favourable natural and climatic conditions during piece times.
